DUNKELD AND BIRNAM HERITAGE TRAIL (2023-2024)

In 2023 I was offered a monumental task, one I accepted without fully taking in the effort I would need to complete it. But it paid off in the end.

Around Dunkeld and Birnam there are a good number of blue plaques, showing the names of important people and places, and Dunkeld Archive offered me the opportunity to make 10-20 second animated shorts for each one, to which I said “No problem” only to find out that there were 41 in total. With that daunting number hanging over me, I knew I couldn’t make the deadline, and so Studio Puddock was officially born (since I felt weird about calling myself a studio when I was just on my lonesome before), I brought on Amelia, Victor and Annabelle to assist me. I let them choose which plaques they wanted to do and set them too it, letting them bring their plaques to life in whatever way they wanted. Still, I had just over 20 to do myself, but it was a huge load off my back.

By the end, Studio Puddock had 41 short films in four different art styles and three fresh animators had a little bit of paid work and some nice things to spruce up their CV.

In 2025 two leaflets were printed. One of Dunkeld and one for Birnam. The leaflets contain a map of the respective villages, along with the locations of the blue plaques and QR codes. With the intention that visitors use their leaflets to find the real life locations, then watch the animated short about that very place. Ive been told that they’ve been a big success with visitors.
